Student Workshop

Each workshop will be for around 30 students from a single group or from mixed groups. Student workshops are held immediately after lunch so that students can have time to visit the collection during the morning.

A professional educational facilitator will lead the workshop.

The first half of the workshop will ask students to feed back their thoughts, ideas and questions around body image and its representation in the galleries. These will provide stimulation for a lively debate on dilemmas around body image and encourage students to be free, frank and ready for some creative work.

The second half will ask students to create their futuristic ‘ideal body'. Split into creative teams they will create and brand their ideas, using writing, sketches, stimulus materials and role play. They will then develop a two-minute advert to show off their creative thinking, which will be acted out by each group. Photos will be taken to send back to the school of their ad campaigns.

At the end of the workshop students will have explored how scientists, artists and thinkers have considered the moral and ethical dilemmas raised by our ability to manipulate and fashion body image and developed their own creative ideas around the theme.

Most importantly, they will have used their creativity to communicate with their peers and be ready to return to school inspired to pursue the theme of body shape and image in whatever way suits their teacher.
